The Danube





 The Danube's importance as the major waterway running south east from Germany's Black Forest through Austria and the Eastern European countries of Slovakia, Hungary, Bulgaria and Romania before reaching the Black Sea cannot be disputed.

We concentrate on the stretch of Danube which runs between Passau, one of Bavaria's oldest and most beautiful cities, the Imperial City of Vienna and Budapest with its amazing architectural landmarks.

PLACES OF INTEREST
Bratislava
The capital of Slovakia, Bratislava, is situated at the foothills of the Carpathian Mountains. Visit 13th century Bratislava Castle which offers a breathtaking view of three countries.

Budapest
One of the most beautiful cities in Europe, Budapest spans the banks of the Danube for eight miles. Connected by seven bridges, the city is comprised of the ancient city, Buda, on the right bank, and her more modern sister, Pest, on the left bank with the splendid Parliament building.

Durnstein
Here in the heart of the beautiful Wachau wine region where vineyards lace softly rolling hills, lies Durnstein.

Esztergom
Esztergom boasts some of the most magnificent monuments in the country. Marvel at the cathedral, a replica of St. Peter's in Rome, and the remains of the Romanesque Royal Palace.

 Linz
The provincial capital of Upper Austria dates back to pre-Roman times with its beautifully preserved Baroque old town.

Melk
Splendid gateway to the lush Wachau Valley, Melk is world-renowned for its magnificent Benedictine Abbey.

Passau
One of Bavaria's oldest and most beautiful cities at the confluence of the Inn, Ilz and Danube, Passau has been called 'one of the seven most beautiful cities in the world'.

Vienna
